It consisted of an upright piece placed in a stand (stol) with a hole in the middle; attached to the upright were two cross-pieces which met at right angles in the middle. Round the ends of these and attached to them were 'cenglau', and upon them the wool was wound; troi yn ei gogwrn, 'to try and tone down, get out of what he has said'.
